WPS upper school students and faculty reflect on the past year.
Jumping into January
Varsity girls' basketball game begins with one goal in mind: success.
Favor in February
WPS Students excel as they participate for the first time in the TAPPS academic competition.
March Greenery
WPS upper school faculty implements IB MYP and DP strategies as they learn how to conceptually plan. This month's unit of inquiry began with the viewing of the PBS documentary, The Digital Nation. Students then developed their own inquiries as they spent the day outside on the school grounds, hunting, cooking, conversing, creating, planting, surviving on only the natural elements of the outdoors, and questioning how life is different now with technology.
A Melting Pot in April
The Parent Social Committee organizes WPS' largest International Day yet. Parents, students, faculty, staff, and The Woodlands, Texas community residents come together to represent each of their home countries, ranging from Costa Rica to Germany, Norway to Australia, Puerto Rico to Canada, the Czech Republic to Spain ... and the analogy continues. What an event to recognize and appreciate differences in culture from all parts of the globe through fine arts performances, scavenger hunts, food tastings, passport stampings, lecture activities, and more.
May Business
Upper school students begin summer internships pertaining to their desired fields of study as they conclude the semester at WPS. Others prepare to travel abroad.
Jumping into June
The famous 2014 World Cup begins in Brazil, an event that allowed the entire globe to be connected. Several of WPS seniors attended the World Cup in Brazil while Woodlands Prep hosted its own Real Madrid Soccer Camp on campus along with several other summer camps. Nearly all of the WPS community engaged in the World Cup's enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and connectivity.
Learning to Fly in July
Many WPS teachers and others from around the globe meet at the TIBBS conference in Austin, Texas to learn more about the IB teaching philosophy and strategies. Below, English teachers of the USA and Taiwan bond while creating an IB unit of inquiry.
August Amazed
Students return to a newly remodeled campus, a more formal attire, and newly trained teachers.
Soaring in September
Seniors apply to colleges and convene with recruiters from diverse private and public universities to discover the best fit for the future. They've had many college visitations, career workshops, and university acceptances this fall.
October Festivities
Upper school hosts its annual costume competition to support Red Ribbon Week: seniors dressed as Disney characters, juniors as characters in the movie, Greece, sophomores as the colors, ROY G. BIV, and freshmen as fifties rockers.
No Nonsense November
WPS hosts its first anti-bullying campaign. Girls Above Society president, Lauren Galley builds inquiry and care within WPS students' camaraderie. As a result, WPS girls formed their own, and the very first ever, GAS chapter and hosted their first act of service, #Bring1Thing, which promoted for every WPS student to bring one pantry item to donate to the local women's shelter. The group looks forward to bonding through service and understanding diversity in the new year.
Deeds of December
Led by the PSC Committee and WPS Administration, student and faculty go above and beyond to achieve the sponsoring of 130 Angel Tree children of The Salvation Army.The goal of our new administration is to serve bigger in 2015. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year, The Woodlands Preparatory School
